Cardiovascular System Dynamics [322.018, Schima]

Attached there is one pdf that is a merged version of Schimas 5 files he uses during the lectures.
I also wrote those questions I could remember into the pdf.Feel free to change it, edit stuff, or post you exam questions below this post so that others can provide from your work as well!

exam questions 2nd group:

1. Describe basic differences between lung and artificial oxygenators, what can be done to maximize oxygenation (construction). Why is CO2 removal more difficult than oxygenation.

2. Which basic mechanisms are responsible for thrombus formation? What are the risk factors for blood trauma and thrombus formation? Why is it difficult to obtain reliable measures of allowable heartstress and blood trauma?

3. Describe flow measurement with CW-Doppler!
- What is really measured?
- What are adventages and disadventages compared to pulsed Doppler?

4. Which 4 physical principals are used for blood purification/dialysis?
- Describe them!
- How are clearence and membrane permeability defined?

(those questions are out of the pdf from Manuel, hopefully I did not miss anything)

Exam questions 1st group:

Describe how continuous doppler works.What exactly will be measured?
What´s the difference between pulsed Doppler and continuous doppler?

Which risk factors lead to thrombus formation?(and 3 more questions about thrombus I can´t remember...) // look at the question from the second group, it should be the same or at least similiar
Define flow to simulate Thrombus creation and annilation.
What are the risk factors for blood traumatization/ thrombus formation?
Why can´t a general number be given for an upper shear limit?

Describe the 4 principles used in Dialysis.
Describe the terms: Clearance and Permeability of a dialyzer.

Difference between the lung and an artifical membrane?
Why is it more difficult to remove CO2 from the blood then O2?

Exam questions June 9th:

- bernoulli equation, relevance for stenosis; what is pressure recovery, what is its medical relevance?
- invasive bp measuring, tip catheters, something about better transfer of high frequencies (?);
- laplace law of tubes and spheres, clinical relevance
- heart lung machine: closed system, which alarms are needed?
- pulsed doppler, what exactly is measured? Compare it with continous wave doppler! Formula for doppler frequency shift
- oxygenators: difference between lung and oxygenators, why is it more difficult to remove co2 from blood than to oxygenize it?

2 more questions, which i can not remember... all in all quite easy
