how large can vertebraes go?

Beitrag von wunderwuzzi »

Why is there a limit as to how large vertebrae animals can grow on our planet? Explain it, using the scaling law.

is anybody able to answer that question thurner-proof-like?

i don't get it... but probably prof. thurner explained it in his lesson?

i think this is just like we did it in the VO to scale the mass of the skeleton with the total mass, then you see, with the scaling of height and weight, that at a certain point of height you would only consist of bones, so this sets a limit for you.

thanks for answering :)

i thought about the example...
actually the answer is slide 21 (M_skeleton prop. M_body^(4/3)) and the plot at slide 27 - is that what you mean?
