Modeling of the Human locomotion system- exam questions

Beitrag von Hofi »

The course is devided in several lectures and Blackboard exercises. Attached are the exam questions and the blackboard lectures.
As with all Biomedical classes from Schmidmayer it´s nothworty to mention that he does NOT put much effort in changing the questions ;)
So good luck with that one!

I worked out the exam questions, it's not much however. This semester (SS2015) we only did the high jump example in the last lecture, I've uploaded that as well (although it's also the first 2 pages of the file that Hofi uploaded).
Hope it helps!

Looks like you have missed the second question. For muscles with the same length but different pcsa you should get a different graph. L1=L2 at least. You have drawn two muscles with different pcsa and different lengths.

I also question the answer on force-length relationship at sarcomere level. To my knowledge, and what I have understood from the sliding filament theory, the length of the actin and myosin filaments during contractions stay constant. Both during shortening and lengthening. There is no compression and decompression of this induvidually. What happens is that the two filmanets slide along each other. This mechanism happens through whats called cross-bridges between the two filaments. The higher number of cross bridges you have, the higher force you can produce. And at some optilmal length of the muscle fibre you will have an optimal force. As the muscle shortens or lengthens you will consequently have fewer cross bridges thus less force. Maybe this can help explain it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sliding_filament_theory

Edit: I looked over the slides from the lecture again. So I would agree that there is a decompression of the actin and myosin and that this leads to the rapid loss in force while shortening from optimal length. Though going from optimal length and stretching the sarcomere does not extend the actin or myosin any further. The length stays the same. There's only the loss of possible cross bridge pairs due to lenghtening of the muscle that leads to decrease in force.

Update:

April 2016: same as 2014

28.06.2017: same as 2014

27.06.2018:

instead of describing the experiments for mass moment of inertia he asked about
simplifying a model of foot to measure the Achilles’ tendon.
a) what to consider and how to simplify it,
b) what would be the important input for this model (?)
c) how to validate it

tomorrow I'll add the exam of 2019

"Give appropriate arguments for your statement"

"Describe movement of Center of Mass during gait cycle and explain how this can be determined from force data presented in the diagram."

Anterior -> vor den Beinen
Posterior -> hinter den Beinen
